1.0 Introduction
The Mechanical Engineering Branch of Public Works Department (PWD) of Negeri Sembilan has been divided into two main sections, i.e. State Workshop and Gemencheh Central Quarry.
The State Workshop is located at Jalan Tuanku Antah, Seremban Town and about 6 km from PWD Main Office. The workshop complex is situated on 3.12 acres land, consist of administration, store, engineering workshop, light vehicle workshop and service bay building.
Gemencheh Quarry is located at 22th km, Tampin-Gemas Main Road and about 80 km from PWD Negeri Sembilan main office. The quarry is developed on 113 acres land and major buildings are administration, workshop, store and production plants.
State Workshop
2.1 Organisation and Function
State Workshop is headed by amechanical engineer and assisted by 7 technical staffs, 18 clerical staffs and 76 Industrial Manual Group (IMG). The main functions of the State Workshop are :-
2.2 Engineering Workshop
The main activities of this section are as follows:
a. Management of PWD's heavy plants and vehicles.
The State Workshop is responsible for management of PWD's heavy plants and vehicles which involve purchasing, distribution, maintenance, repairs, record keeping writing off.
b. Maintenance and repairs of other government department's vehicles and heavy plants if requested by them.
c. Provide training and examination related to mechanical engineering for PWD's personnel,other civil servants and students.
d. Provide miscellaneous services which are to be certified only by a Mechanical Engineer such as :
2.3 Building Services
Typical mechanical engineering services in the buildings are air conditioning system, fire fighting system, pumping system, lift system, low pressure gas piping system,laboratory equipment system,kitchen equipment system and health equipment system.
The main activities of this section are as follow:
a. Management of mechanical projects in the buildings which are involved planning, design, tendering, supervision, contractual and maintenance during defect liablity period.
b. Maintenance of mechanical equipment in the buildings as requested by other government departments.
In Sixth Malaysian Plan 334 numbers of projects had been completed with the cost of RM 36.8m. For the Seventh Malaysia Plan approximatedly 480 projects with a total cost of RM 62.96m projects will be implemented.
In 1996 this section had implemented 85 projects with a total cost of RM 12.89m. The total number of projects estimated for the year 1997 is around 128 with a total cost of RM 20.42m.
