The Federal Territory Mosque is situated at Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur on an area of 13.4 hectares (33acres). It was handed over to Jabatan Agama Wilayah Persekutuan (JAWI) on 4 September 2000.

The mosque wholly designed and supervised by PWD Malaysia. The built-up area is approximately 47,000 square metres with four levels. The mosque can accomodate 17,000 'jemaah' at any one time.

Design Concept, Architectural and Finishing Features

The multifaceted and multifunctional mosque was designed to be the center of devotion, educational, and social events other than the common Muslim belief that a mosque is only for formal worship center.

The architecture of the mosque draws back the magnificent Ottoman mosque of the 16th century. It features 22 domes comprises of a main dome, a few half-domes, a semi-circular vault and other small domes. The main dome has a diameter of 30 meters and a height of 45 meters from the floor level of the Main Prayer Hall. The main prayer area, multipurpose hall and hostel are fully air-conditioned. The mosque is also equipped with fire-fighting system, llift service up to Level 4, and an escalator that links Level 1 and Level 3.

Landscape

The concept of the landscape is of a mosque witthin a garden, reminiscing the past palatial garden of the Islamic realm. The garden compliments and completes the mosque as the center of learning, research, and recreational. The mosque is surrounded by a moat - creating a calm, serene, and tranquil atmosphere. The mosque is complete with walkway and fountains. Visitors will be attracted to the presence of the various species of scented flowers and plants.
