Maintenance Management Services

This is an operational service handled by PWD Malaysia where we maintain the public utilities such as water supply in some of the states, workshops, ferry services, and roadside development. We also maintain government facilities such as roads, buildlings, mechanical systems, electrical systems, vehicles, and logies. The main bulk of this service is the roads maintenance.

Roads Maintenance

The countrywide roads maintenance is handled by the Roads Branch. Implementation of maintenance programmes involves the following activities:

• Pavement Management Systems (for Policies, System and Pavement Technology)
• Slope Management
• Management of Mechanical Assets

We maintain a road network totaling 15,746.10 km of Federal roads - based on 2003 statistics

Managing The Privatisation Of Federal Road Maintenance Contract

The responsibility to manage and supervise the privatization of the Federal road maintenance contract for Peninsular Malaysia at zonal level has been delegated to three regional units.

• UPPJ Wilayah Utara. This zone covers Perlis, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, and Perak. It involves 2603 km of roads and the contractor is Belati Wangsa
• UPPJ Wilayah Tengah / Timur. This zone covers the states of Kelantan, Trenggani, Pahang, and Selangor. It involves 5636km of roads. The responsibled contractor is Roadcare
• UPPJ Wilayah Selatan . This zone vocers Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor. It involves 3381km of roads. The contractor for this zone is Selia Senggara (M)S.B .

Managing the Federal Roads Slopes 

The planning of maintenance and rehabilitation for slopes along Federal roads are carried using a computer software program known as the Slope Priority Ranking System (SPRS). Periodic inspections of high risk slopes are carried out by PWD District officers and data obtained through these inspections are used as input to the system. This enables the effective planning of preventive measures to increase stability of slopes for safety of road users.

Managing the Mechanical Assets

We provide advisory role for the maintenance of mechanical equipment along the Federal road network, such as weight bridge stations.
