Rapid Transit System (RTS)
The project is a Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link between a station in the vicinity of JB Sentral in Johor Bahru, Malaysia and a station in the vicinity of Republic Polythecnic in Woodlands, Singapore. It shall be a shuttle link with double tracks of approximately 4km length. This RTS Link is to be a convenient and cost effective system that is well integrated with transport services in both Woodlands, Singapore and Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The proposed RTS Link shall have a co-located Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) facility in Woodlands, Singapore and Johor Bahru, Malaysia so that commuters need to clear immigration only once from each way of travel.
The RTS project is divided into two phases- Phase 1: Engineering Study and Phase 2: Detailed Engineering Design.
Phase 1: Engineering Study is to develop preliminary alignment schemes, system proposals, passenger flow and connectivity study for the RTS Link interchange with CIQ facilities and multi-modal transport hub and also to prepare detailed evaluations for each of the scheme based on technical, operational, maintenance, environmental, cost and any other aspects where appropriate.
Phase 2: Detailed Engineering Design is to develop the detailed design of the RTS Link based on the alignment scheme selected by the Authority.
The involvement of JKR in this project is to provide technical support and advice to Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Awam Darat (SPAD) regarding architectural, civil & structural and geotechnical matters.
